 INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2021

The Virtual Investiture Ceremony for forming the School Cabinet of 2021-22 was held on June 7, 2021. The ceremony commenced with a short prayer and hymn, followed by the Principal Sr Supreeta announcing the newly appointed cabinet. The new School Pupil Leader Purva Goyal then took the oath of office on behalf of the entire cabinet. They were congratulated and blessed by Sr Supreeta, who also shared some words of wisdom on how to carry on their duties. The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Class Teachers of Class XII.

 

DIGITAL POSTER MAKING TO CELEBRATE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

On the occasion of World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5th, a Digital Poster Making Competition using Microsoft Word was organized for Class VI, of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh. The activity was organized by the Computer teacher, Ms. Archana Mathur and the final round was judged by the Computer teachers Ms. Harpreet Malvai, Ms. Anu Kapoor and Ms. Archana Mathur.

HUMAN LIBRARY - YADON KA SAFAR

As it is rightly said “grandparents create memories that the heart holds forever”. On 23 June 2021 a zoom meeting was conducted by the NSS volunteers and NSS Programme Officer Ma’am Preeti Swami for grandparents  to interact online with children from the Bapu Dham colony and students of Carmel Convent School. The meeting started with welcoming all the grandparents to the session.  Following this all participants were divided into sub-groups and each group had one grandparent whom they could ask all their questions to. By the end of the session everybody had a smile on their faces because they had learned something from the grandparents’ experience. The grandparents promised the students that they would be a part of this event in the future also.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA

The International Yoga Day was also celebrated with Cadets, Guides, NSS volunteers and students of Carmel and their parents joining in for an online yoga session conducted by the school value-education teacher, Ms Preeti Swami. The session included a brief introduction on the importance of yoga, it’s meaning and benefits. The session concluded with a short quiz in which students participated enthusiastically.

NSS INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2021

The Carmel Covent School family has always been dedicated to serving people to the best of its capacity while also inculcating values like teamwork, compassion and generosity in return. One such initiative taken up by the school is NSS (National Service Scheme) wherein the students of senior secondary do their bit towards the society through targeted events as a team. An important step under NSS’ functioning is to inculcate leadership qualities in the students and to give them a feel of the functioning of an administrative body. Therefore, the NSS cabinet for the session 2021-22 was selected and the investiture ceremony for the leaders took place on July 9 2021 in the school auditorium. The flag-bearers of NSS and their portfolios are as follows:

NATIONAL DAY OF FRANCE

To mark the celebration of Bastille Day i.e National Day of France on 14th July, various competitions were organised for the students learning French in school.

ANIMAL LOVER ASSOCIATION (ALA)

The initiative was started by NSS volunteers in 2018 and has continued till date. The team collected donations in the month of May in collaboration with Panjab University and provided milk and pedigree to dogs and gur to cows and buffaloes.

SANJHA CHULLAH ACTIVITY

This activity was started on 25th December 2019 where students made ‘rotis’ themselves and provided one meal to a needful person.
Just as the second wave of the pandemic was starting, the NSS volunteers of the 2021 batch decided to continue this activity every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. However, all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the volunteers and the people they helped.

CARMELITE RAISES FUND FOR WOMEN'S HYGIENE

Prisha Kapoor, a Class XII student of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh took an initiative to help underprivileged women facing challenges due to lack of menstrual hygiene products by creating awareness and providing reusable sanitary cloth pads to the needful.
She started an initiative “Saheli – स्त्री स्वच्छता (provide reusable cloth pad)” and with the help of various Social media platforms, raised funds of Rs 65,000 to support 300 women with a sets of reusable cloth sanitary napkins.
She also collaborated with the NGO, ‘Uboontu Foundation’ (an organization which works to spread awareness about menstrual health and hygiene for women).

IRA SINGH & SANAYA AGGARWAL HONOURED AT THE WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY

The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR), Centre for Social Work & National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, Chandigarh honoured Covid-19 warriors on account of
World Social Work Day 2021 on March 31 st , 2021. Two NSS volunteers of our school, Ira Singh from Class 12 C and Sanaya Aggarwal from Class 12 A were also honoured for their selfless service during the COVID-19 pandemic at Bapu Dham Colony in the form of a programme launched under the able guidance of NSS
Programme Officer, Ma’am Preeti Swami.

MALALA DAY CELEBRATED

Malala Day was celebrated in association with the NGO, Yuvsatta, on 12 July 2021 at Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh. The participating students celebrated with enthusiasm the courage and fortitude displayed by Malala and vowed to follow her example of fighting for their rights and those of other girls. The girls painted white handkerchiefs on the theme ‘Girls India: Demand and Claim Your Rights” to mark the occasion in a virtual session. Malala is a global icon known for her strength, courage and will to fight for equal rights. Therefore, the participating girls drew inspiration from her motivation and drive to keep demanding for equal rights, especially for girls and women in a male-dominated society. The best entries from classes 6-10 were Preesha from class 6, Eesha from class 7, Priyanshi from class 8, Kavya from class 9 and Adaa from class 10.

YOUNGEST PARAGLIDER IN INDIA

Miska Jain of class 1C, Carmel Convent School has been declared as the youngest paraglider in India and has been confirmed as the record holder by the Limca Book of Records. She paraglided in Bir Billing, Himachal Pradesh which is one of the best paragliding sites of Asia. She has also been nominated for International Girl Child Awards to be held in October. We congratulate the budding paraglider for her achievements and proudly call her a member of our Carmel family, a Carmelite!

GIRL INDIA PROJECT LAUNCHED

The finale of ‘Read Bapudham Campaign’ was conducted by CCPCR (Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights), Carmel Convent School & Yuvsatta-NGO. The top three readers received new bicycles and the other participants were given school bags with stationery items, hand sanitisers, masks & other gifts.

AARNA GUPTA SETS NEW WORLD RECORD

Aarna Gupta of Carmel Convent School (Chandigarh) has achieved The World Record of” MOST AIRLINES IDENTIFIED BY THEIR AEROPLANE’S TAILS IN ONE MINUTE” in the international book of records on 1st July 2021. The first-grader identified 93 airlines by their aeroplane’s tail in one minute.

SALUTATIONS SISTERS SUMITA, BEENA & ROSARINA 

The Principal Sr. Supreeta welcomed Sisters Sumita, Beena and Rosarina to Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh and introduced them to the staff. The Carmel family wished them a fruitful and enjoyable stay.

TIPS ON HEALTHY EATING FOR STAFF

On 10th July 2021, Dt. Harleen Bakshi, Diabetic Educator and Clinical Nutritionist at Fortis Healthcare, Chandigarh, delivered a talk on Eat Well Stay Well during the Pandemic for the staff members of Carmel.
